ANGELES CITY – Angeles City Team brought home 103 medals in the recently concluded 2010 Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) meet held February 22 to 26.
More than Twenty athletes from the Angeles City delegation qualified and were recommended to represent Central Luzon in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa set in April at San Jose Sports Complex, Tarlac. The team triumphs with an improved medal count of Forty Five (45) gold, Twenty Four (24) silver and Twenty Four (24) bronze compared to last year’s tally of Eight (8) gold, Thirty Seven (37) silver and Thirty Three (33) bronze medals.
Athletes, who successfully qualified to represent the region, are Lawn Tennis Players Burmiel Pineda, Vince Russel Salas and Ma. Angela Sunga; Boxer Fernando Tacuyan; Taekwondo Jin Genesis Ryan Simbulan; Swimming Team (Male and Female); Volleyball Players (Secondary Division-Female) among others.
Mayor Francis ‘Blueboy’ Nepomuceno enthusiastically applauded the athletes for giving their best performance in the sports meet. “This shows that Angeleños are naturally skilled and talented. Our role as leaders includes providing them with the right resources and opportunities to utilize and enhance these skills and talents. This is one of the several reasons why the Angeles City Government never hesitated in investing in programs and facilities that could improve the potential of its citizens,” says Nepomuceno. It could be recalled that the Nepomuceno administration has spearheaded the construction of a world-class multi-purpose building that could function as a City Sports Stadium or a convention center set to be ready by 2013.
“Comprehensive and vigorous training of the athletes would start by March 8,” says Angeles City Sports Office (ACSO) Chief Paul Ryan Puri. “We are truly blessed to have a leader like Mayor Francis ‘Blueboy’ Nepomuceno who genuinely advocates programs, which include sports, to redirect the youth from vices and develop champions amongst themselves,” added Puri.
