ANGELES CITY – Angeles City joined the commemoration of International Women’s Month (IWM). Mayor Francis ‘Blueboy’ Nepomuceno in coordination with the Gender and Development Office (GAD) and other advocates from the private and public sectors by coming up with fun, educational and meaningful activities for the whole month of March.
IWM is globally celebrated every March. The whole month would be spent in tribute to the economic, political and social achievements of women. To celebrate IWM, GAD conducts a month-long series of activities which raise public awareness on women’s issues and achievements across all sectors and cultures.
“Women are powerful in their very essence. She is capable of creating, nurturing and transforming,” said Nepomuceno in giving the importance of women in society.
“Whatever you give a woman, she would make something greater. Present her a house and she will transform it into a home. Provide her food rations and she will offer you a hearty meal. She multiplies and enlarges whatever she is given,” added Nepomuceno.
The Angeles City Government made a beneficial head start of the celebration by offering a free Osteoporosis Screening last Monday, March 01, 2010 at the City Hall Lobby. There will also be a lecture series about Diabetes and Healthy Lifestyle on Friday, March 05, 2010 from 1PM to 5PM at Holy Angel University.
On Monday, March 08, 2010, Mother’s Club will be celebrating the induction of their newly-elected officers from 8AM until 12NN at People’s Gym, Barangay Cutcut, Angeles City.
Dr. Alfie Bonifacio and Atty. Bryan Nepomuceno would also be conducting free dental consultation and legal assistance on Tuesday, March 09, 2010, 8-11AM at the City Library. In the afternoon, various activities will be hosted by the local government in collaboration with WeDpro, Inc., a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)-registered non-profit organization in the Philippines working with marginalized women and children. The afternoon affair would include a lecture, a face and mask painting experience and a singing competition.
Simultaneously on Tuesday, March 09, 2010, there would be free Pap Smear testing at Juanita L. Nepomuceno Birthing Center from 8:30AM until 11AM. There would be another scheduled free Pap-smear screening on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Papanicolaou Smear or Pap Smear is a screening test that could detect cancerous or precancerous conditions of the cervix. It should be done once every 2 years or depending on your physician’s recommendation.
A lecture series will take place from 8AM to 11AM on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the City Library. Meanwhile, there would be a free massage therapy and haircut on Thursday, March 11, 2010 during 8-11AM and 1-4PM at the PESO Office.
The Agriculture Office will be hosting livelihood programs entitled ‘Meat Processing with Orientation Briefing on Backyard Gardening & Distribution of Seeds and Plants’ and ‘Candy Making with Orientation Briefing on Backyard Gardening & Distribution of Seeds and Plants’ on Wednesday, March 17 and Thursday, March 18, respectively. Both will be divided into morning (8-11AM) and afternoon (1-4PM) sessions.
Seminars on responsible parenthood will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 and on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 9-11AM at the Teen Information Center, 2nd Floor, Balibago Social Hygiene Clinic. A lecture series about Breast Cancer will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010 and Monday, March 29, 2010 at the City Health Office.
The local government has also partnered with Tour of Hope and has organized an awareness activity that would enable Angeleños to be armed against cervical cancer on March 20, 2010 at the City Library.
“In a developing metropolis like Angeles City, authentic progress cannot be achieved if a fraction of its population is excluded from the opportunities it creates.
